Here it is my 25 best summer events across the East Riding of Yorkshire and North Yorkshire to keep you busy all summer. All events are family friendly. Enjoy and report back by following us on social media. We’d love to hear what you have or haven’t enjoyed.
Beverley Racecourse – Family Race Days – East Riding
When? 30th July
“Paw Patrol Family race day. A lovely day out for young and old alike, PAW Patrol favourites Chase and Marshall will be making appearances during narrator-led story time sessions at this family raceday. Bring your little ones along to see their favourite pups and listen to tales of their heroic adventures. There’s also a superb afternoon of racing to enjoy as well as the return of the slightly bonkers Bark de Triomphe, a charity race for jockey’s dogs where anything goes!”

“Circus family raceday. Our bank holiday family raceday with funfair rides and stalls is a great day out for all the family. Fun for kids includes funfair rides and side stalls from The Beverley Lions, and a Big Top with circus training by Greentop Circus, as well as a beer festival for the adults, and a great afternoon of racing.”
Bridlington – Carnival and Classic Car Show – East Riding
When? Sunday 4th August
“Bridlington Carnival, Boot Fair and Car Show is a Free one-day annual event held on Sewerby Cliff Top which attracts upwards of 10.000 visitors. Boot Fair 7 am, Carnival & Car Show 10 am. All day parking £3. Stall, food, music, beer tent, rides, dog show and plenty of fun.”
Burnby Hall & Gardens – Pirates of Burnby and more – North Yorkshire

July 31st – Pirates of Burnby. “Swashbuckling tales, adventure on the high seas, and the promise of hidden booty with our friendly buccaneer! Exciting outdoor performance with activities by Rusticus.”
Plus Teddy bear’s picnic 7th August, Percy’s Adventures 14th August, The Great fairy and pixie gathering 21st August. Circus Circus 28th August.
Burton Agnes Hall – Summer Music – East Riding
When? 21st July & 18th August
“This summer, Burton Agnes Hall invites visitors to enjoy a series of jolly musical performances in Hall and award winning gardens. The bands will play in the Great Hall and on the lawn near the Summer House, with the Elizabethan home as a glorious backdrop. Seating will be provided, though visitors may like to bring a picnic rug. Visitors are welcomed to relax, perhaps with an ice cream from the characterful, vintage 1963 Bedford ice cream van, and enjoy the performances surrounded by serene gardens in full bloom. Performances in the grounds: Driffield Army Brass Quartet: Sunday 21st July. Middle 8 Singers: Sunday 18th August. All performances begin at 2.00pm.”
Burton Constable – Teddy Bear’s Picnic & Countryside Day – East Riding
When? 1st August & 26th August
“1st – Countryside day. A day for celebrating all that is special about the Yorkshire countryside at Burton Constable, a lovely day out for all the family!. Enjoy Mini-Beast Safaris, Storytelling, Crafts, Face Painting, Orienteering & much more besides!”
“26th – Teddy Bear’s Picnic. Enjoy a picnic with your favourite teddy bear or cuddly toy in the Grounds of Burton Constable Hall.”
Castle Howard – Camp Wilderness & Countryfile – North Yorkshire
When? 29th July – 30th August.
Camp Wilderness – “Camp Wilderness runs 3-day and 5-day residential summer camps for children aged 6 to 15. If you want your children to unplug and rewild during the summer holidays, Camp Wilderness is the perfect place to send them for an exciting back-to-nature summer camp experience.
Held in safari-style tented camps in the middle of the most magical woodlands, days at camp are spent participating in a host of different activities, from shelter-building, to archery and wilderness cooking. Evenings are spent enjoying big bushtucker feasts, playing games in the fields, and roasting marshmallows over the campfire. BBC Countryfile live – “BBC Countryfile Live Castle Howard will include a range of features including the Village Green, the Countryfile Experience featuring the programme’s presenters, the Wildlife Zone, Farming in Action and Passion for British Livestock.The new event will represent the best of the northern countryside and celebrate regional farming, capturing the essence of the Yorkshire countryside, in the county where presenter John Craven got his first break as a reporter on the Harrogate Advertiser.”

Driffield Steam and Vintage Rally – East Riding
When? 10th & 11th August.
“Traditional Steam & Vintage Rally. Steam Showman’s & traction engines, rollers etc. (40), miniature steam engines, steam cars, vintage cars, commercials, motorcycles, stationary engines, vintage tractors, crafts, models, working area, large market area etc. etc. Ring events. Over 1000 exhibits. Something for all the family.”
Eden Camp – Living History Weekend – North Yorkshire
When? 24th & 25th August.
“Several small groups of re-enactors including WW2 Days Gone By and Armed Forces Movement Control, will be on site over the bank holiday weekend. The groups will be portraying both military and civilians, helping to enhance the 1940s theme and allowing visitors to get up close to uniforms, clothing and kit of the period.
The day will be packed with demonstrations and renown 1940s entertainers Paul Harper and Don Gentile will be performing throughout the day. All visitors to the museum are invited to join in with the fun and get dressed up in either civilian or military period clothing. All weapons (including but not limited to deactivated rifles, blank firing weapons, knives, bayonets) are NOT permitted on site. Costume must be respectful and SS/Gestapo uniform (or similar) is strictly prohibited. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch.”
Flamingo Land – Peppa Pig & George – North Yorkshire
When? Saturday 17th August.
“Peppa Pig comes to Flamingo Land! Come along and see Peppa Pig and George during Story Time sessions, led by a narrator, at intervals on Saturday 17th August! The Story Time will take place at 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm at our Riverside One area, AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE. So why not come along and enjoy a tot’s party celebration that includes storytelling, singing, dancing and face-painting (£2 per face).
Fort Paull – Summer Events – East Riding
“10th & 11th – Claymores Scottish Highlanders. Fantastic Historical Displays and fun for all from this much-respected group offering an insight into the weapons and methods used during the Lace wars. This is living history at its best, an event not to be missed!”
“25th & 26th. Knights in battle. Swords and Shields, Bows and Arrows aplenty as the brilliant Knights in Battle return for their annual feasting and fighting. Join in the fun, cheer on your knight, even let the kids have a go and enjoy a fabulous day out.”
Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden – Various events – North Yorkshire
They have many family friendly events on throughout the summer. I can’t possibly begin to list everything here. Events include pond dipping, various craft activities, family tours, medieval camp, mini raft building and more.
Harewood House – VW Festival – West Yorkshire (snuck it in!)
When? 10th & 11th August
“Join us for the full VW experience this summer! There’s everything from trade stands, club stands and vehicle displays, to camping, entertainment and live music. With a great laid back and family atmosphere, VW Festival 2019 is back, bigger and better than ever!”
They also have Luna Kids cinema 21st – 25th August. Plus a couple of other family friendly events.
Hull Show – East Riding
When? August 10th & 11th.
“The Hull Show is returning in 2019! With 29,000 people attending in 2018, The Hull Show is looking forward to another big year. With thrilling live entertainment, huge funfair, local traders, food, drink and even more.” East Park.
Lightwater Valley – Summer music events – North Yorkshire
“For the first time, Lightwater Valley is introducing live music with the Summer Saturday Sessions. Chill out and be entertained by the fabulous tribute acts. 27th July – Robbie Williams Tribute. 3rd Aug – Spice Girls Tribute. 10th Aug – Little Mix Tribute. 17th Aug – Bruno Mars Tribute. 24th Aug – Olly Murs Tribute. 31st Aug – Ed Sheeran Tribute.
Plus the brand new UV Magic Lights ’ puppet show in the Show Barn throughout the holidays once the schools break up.
Mother Shipton’s Cave – Witches and Wizards – North Yorkshire
When? 24th July – 1st September.
There is no further information on their website. They do hold great events though.

Newby Hall and Gardens – Aldborough & Boroughbridge Show – North Yorkshire
When? Sunday 28th July

RHS Garden Harlow Carr – The Very Hungry Caterpillar – North Yorkshire
When? 20th July – 1st September.
“Families are being encouraged to get a wiggle on and head to RHS Garden Harlow Carr as The Very Hungry Caterpillar™ descends on the garden for the summer holidays. The best-selling children’s book, published by Penguin Books, celebrates 50 years since its first publication this year. A full programme of top steam fair attractions including: Tractor Pulling, Steam Engines, Classic Cars, Vintage Tractors, Classic Motorcycles, Fairground Organs, Miniature Steam Engines, Stationary Engines and Vintage Commercials. Sewerby Hall and Gardens – Various Events – East Riding
There’s plenty on at Sewerby Hall this summer. They have Magic days with horse rides, Parrots and Pirates, Nerf, Rustic encounters, Rustic woodland theatre. Plus family fun days, wizard of oz, archery and much more.

Sledmere – Tribfest – East Riding
When? Thu 15th August to Sun 18th August.
“The world’s biggest tribute band and music festival. Main stage, VIP tent, comedy tent, acoustic and unsigned marquees, ‘kids zone’ and silent disco. A great festival environment for the whole family!”
Stockeld Park – Summer Adventure – North Yorkshire
When? 20th July – 2nd September 2019.

The Deep – Turtle-y awesome summer – East Riding
When? July 20th – September 1st.
“Get hands on in our very own ‘turtle hospital’ where youngsters can get up close with a giant turtle (a cuddly one, of course) and find out what it takes to look after our flipper-ed friends. Learn all about turtle anatomy and even help the team carry out a turtle health check. Inspect their eyes, nose and mouth, as well as checking their flippers and shell then report back to us on your vet examination form. Take part in the turtle trail and find out about more about the species that live all around the world and the challenges they face.
Enjoy interactive presentations from our guiding team at 11am, 1pm and 3pm and get your face painted in Craft Corner from 11am to 4pm. Plus we will be giving you the chance the put your questions to our Turtle Keepers via our Facebook page each week. So get your thinking caps on!”
