There is certainly a lot less on in 2020 than previous years for Halloween in the South East of England. That’s not to say that there’s nothing on though. I’ve found events in all counties and there are plenty of ideas to keep you busy during October half-term.

Blackgang Chine – Frights and Sprites – Isle of Wight
Blackgang Chine’s ghostly characters are yet again causing mischief in Rumpus Mansion with their LIVE performance this October. After braving the Mansion, head up past the Hall of Mirrors to dance away the cobwebs at the spooky disco and keep your eyes peeled for a whole host of gremlins – can you spot them all? Enjoy an array of spooky activities, games, competitions and the chance to meet Cedric the Dragon alongside our very own Fairy Queen!

Exbury Gardens & Steam Railway – Halloween events – Hampshire
Halloween Ghost train –
Our crew of ghoulish characters are returning to Exbury’s steam railway this October half term. They will be haunting the train tracks and entertaining families with their slapstick comedy performances… with a few frights along the way of course!
Our ghost train and characters may be a little too scary for some children so parental discretion is advised before booking.
Gruesome garden trail – The voodoo of Halloween has turned our Rock Garden into a spooky graveyard this half term. Do you dare to enter? Walk through cobweb arches, see monsters emerging from the ground and ghosts on zipwires.
Don’t worry, everything in this trail is a Halloween prop and is suitable for most children, although parental discretion is advised for those of a sensitive nature.

Broomstick flying school – This year, we’ve heard from flying instructor, Madame Flyleada, that the 2020 class have been the worst to date! Wicked witch of the wild wood – Though the storytelling will be going ahead, we are currently re-evaluating the traditional set up to ensure it is as safe as possible for our visitors. More details will be announced soon!

Tapnell Farm Park – PYO Pumpkin Patch – Isle of Wight
The wonderful Wanda is returning to Tapnell Farm Park this October half term to grow her pumpkins in our magical soil! Accompanied by her trusty (and slightly goofy!) scarecrow friends, Wanda will be waiting to see which pumpkin you pick!
This year you will need to make your way through our Spooktacular maze, and past her silly scarecrows to get to Wanda’s pumpkins. Then take your pumpkin home and decorate it in time for Halloween, when Wanda will be flying past to wave at all her little pumpkins glowing in your homes!
On the 31st there will be prizes given out for the best Halloween Fancy Dress costumes, and that includes grownups too!

Wellington Country Park – Hallowellyween – Berkshire
We have had a lot of questions about our yearly Hallo’welly’ween event and we know how much joy it brings to our visitors and staff alike. We love having such a big event to end the season with and we know how important this is to our frequent visitors and Annual Pass holders.
We are really hopeful that we will be able to go ahead with the event as we have now planned it, in a Covid-19 secure way. However, as you can understand, regulation and advice is constantly changing and as guest safety is our number one priority, we are currently waiting to release further details.
