Spread the love

There are quite a few places that offer afternoon tea in Stratford-Upon-Avon. We managed to fit a delicious one in during our weekend break to the town. We ate at The Townhouse which is conveniently located in the centre of Stratford-Upon-Avon and is directly opposite William Shakespeare’s Old Schoolroom and Guildhall. There are a lot of beautiful medieval buildings in Stratford and this is certainly one of the best to be able to sit and look out at.

The building of the Townhouse is also very attractive and is castle like in design.

We had pre booked for 1pm and although it was a hot day there was a lovely breeze coming through the windows and we loved the look and feel of the interior design of the restaurant. You can also stay at the Townhouse as it has 12 bedrooms. They also have the facility to pre-book a table online. You can book for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The Townhouse is also a short walk from the RSC (Royal Shakespeare company theatre) and you can also enjoy a pre theatre meal in the restaurant.

Afternoon tea is provided at a cost of £13.50 per person. If you wish to have afternoon tea at The Townhouse they request that you pre book at least 48 hours in advance. The tea is from a choice of award winning Birchall Prism teas. It was far too hot for me that day to drink tea so I ordered a diet coke which is not included in the price of afternoon tea but that is completely normal and expected.

We were served our three-tier afternoon tea after a wait of around 15 minutes. My four year old eats a lot of food and we requested a smaller child’s portion to be provided with our food. They were kind enough to include a full adult portion for him which he was over the moon about and made him feel very special.

Afternoon tea for three

To start with we had fresh slithers of traditional finger sandwiches. There was cucumber, salmon, cheddar and tomato plus chicken with spring onion which tasted like stuffing. All were delicious and Jamie’s absolute favourite was the salmon with I believe a little cream cheese.

We then moved on to the scones. How do you take yours? We have ours the Devon way with the cream and then the jam. You wouldn’t after all but butter on your jam! They were quite crispy scones and went down a treat.

How do you eat your scone?

Finally we moved on to the cakes. Jamie and I adored our, what we believe to be, chocolate brownie. It was very moist and lovely and rich. The biscuits layered with strawberry and cream were divine. We are still unsure what went into the denser cake. It was certainly like nothing we’ve tasted before.

Cakes!!

I have struggled in the past to eat everything that has been given to me for an afternoon tea. The portions were spot on for this. Although we didn’t exactly manage all of it we managed enough to not feel guilty about waste.

Why not pay the Townhouse a visit when you go to Stratford-Upon-Avon?
