Welcome to our what’s on guide for February half-term in North Yorkshire, 2020. Please check with the attractions that they are open and their events are running before you leave home. This is our ultimate guide to the best events for kids, make sure you bookmark this page so that you can keep checking back. Another issue we often find at February half-term is some places aren’t even open. Hopefully, this post will keep you busy in one of the coldest school holidays of the year. We still love to get out and about in the winter – nothing some gloves, a hat, scarf and wellie boots can’t fix.

Beningbrough Hall and Gardens

When? Saturday 15th – Sunday 23rd February. EventThe magic of trees. About – Experience the magic of trees this half term on the last chance to follow the tree and bird trail and see Winter Wildlife in Print. Depending on the weather the snowdrops could be at their best giving a carpet of white along the ha-ha walk. read more….

Kiplin Hall and Gardens

When? All half term EventSnowdrop strolls About – Take a stroll through the grounds of Kiplin surrounded by swaths of snowdrops and aconites. The hall is closed until March but the grounds remain open. Families can enjoy natural play amongst the flora and fauna in our beautiful grounds, pond dipping at the Lily Pond, wildlife hunting in the woodland, and expending any excess energy in the play area.

When? Saturday 15th – Saturday 22nd February. EventFab Feb Family Fun About – Ideally aimed at children between the ages of 3 and 8 years of age, Fab Feb Family Fun features a whole host of fantastic indoor and outdoor activities all on offer throughout the school holidays. A selection of Fairground rides will also be open during the event.

Saturday 15th – Sunday 23rd February EventHalf term family fun About – Youngsters can enjoy a range of fun all-weather activities at RHS Garden Harlow Carr including a chance to make sun catchers and windsocks during half term and discover more about the wild weather of the UK on a daily garden trail. There is an excellent adventure playground.

Askham Bryan Wildlife Park – Askham Bryan Wildlife and Conservation Park is a small wildlife park set in the beautiful arboretum at Askham Bryan College. Outside in the park you might spot monkeys, meerkats and other amazing animals. The indoor Wildlife of the World section is home to a variety of creatures from clownfish to civets. Animal experiences are available from 5+.

Big Sheep and Little Cow Farm – Our farm tours currently run between 11.00am and 3:30pm. No need to book just come down to the farm and we will book you onto the next available tour upon arrival. There is also an indoor playbarn.

Bolton Abbey – Our woodland adventure trail leads you from the stepping stones to the Cavendish Pavilion (but you can start at either end). Your little ones can look forward to navigating an igloo shaped climbing wall, tunnels, scramble nets, balance beams, wobbly stirrups, the maze and many more obstacles. Once you’ve completed that there’s some gorgeous stepping stones across the river.

Castle Howard – Only the grounds are open, not the house, but this does mean it is cheaper to visit. Adventure playground plus a second adventure playground on an island, fantastic grounds with lots to see and do.

Dalby Forest – Numerous free walking, cycling and running trails. Gruffalo orienteering, children’s forest packs, play areas, family-friendly trails. Plus activities at GoApe. Their current trail is the Shaun the Sheep Farmageddon glow trail. read more….

Flamingo Land – Open for winter. Half the park is shut but there is still plenty to see and do. Hesketh Farm Park at Bolton Abbey – Tractor tours around the farm, plus there’s loads to do, including feeding and stroking the animals, having fun inside – maybe in the giant sandpit or playing hide and seek with your friends in the straw maze.

Monk Park Farm – Our animals are the stars of the show here at Monk Park Farm, but there are loads of other fun things to do as well! You can take a barrel ride around the farm allowing you to get up close to lots of our animals including the Alpacas, Wallabies, Goats and more. Our hay barn is really popular with big bales to climb on and ropes to swing on.

Northwood Fairy Trail – We are a unique fairy sanctuary, the first of its kind, and we merely present the forgotten history of Northwood and display the fairy artefacts and treasures we have found over the years – for young and old alike to enjoy.

Ryedale Folk Museum – There’s lots to see and do at Ryedale Folk Museum. You can take a step back in time as you wander in and out of our historic buildings, and find out about life in the past. For most of the year we have animals such as rare breed pigs, sheep and chickens. There’s lots to explore…

Soft Play – If you fancy letting the kids run wild for a bit how about going to a soft play centre? Check out this post to find a soft play centre near you.

York – Don’t forget all the great things to do in York. There’s the FREE National Railway museum, Jorvik viking centre, DIG and York Cathedral. Plus plenty of other great museums.
