Things to do at Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre review
This museum is dedicated to Roald Dahl, who used to live in the village. There are two main parts to the museum. The first part is the small museum itself which is separated into different rooms, covering different parts of his life. Each room links to his autobiographical books; Boy and Solo. His life story is told in a very interactive and fun way.
In the room covering the solo years, there’s the actual shed that he used to write in, including the chair and writing desk that he made himself. This shed was surrounded by various bits and bobs from his life, including his actual hip bone! Yuk and cool all at the same time. Both rooms have lots of hands-on exhibits and things to do.
Most of your time will be spent in the story centre as it really doesn’t take that long to look around the museum (maybe 45 minutes or so). If your children are able to write and have a good imagination then they will LOVE this place. There are lots of different ways to inspire children to write their own stories. You can make a short motion capture film, design characters, make new words and more. There are also lots of free craft activities they can do.
During the school holidays, they run events and workshops as well as story-telling sessions. There are also some free walks around the local area, covering places that were meaningful to Roald Dahl.
Eating – There is a cafe on site. You can also bring your own picnic.
