Things to do at Norton Priory Museum and Gardens review

Norton Priory Museum and Gardens is one of Cheshire’s hidden gems. It was once home to a medieval church and is the most excavated monastic site in Europe.

There is a 12-century undercroft with beautiful vaulted ceilings that visitors can explore. The priory ruins that remain today show the layout of the medieval buildings. In the museum, there are thousands of objects on display which have been uncovered at the site. These tell the 900-year history from priory to mansion house and of the people that have lived there.

Around the site of the priory, you will find a choice of woodland walks with secret summer houses, sculptures and also a stream glade. In the summer the 2.5-acre Georgian walled garden is also open. There is also a play area and there are often family-friendly trails, currently, there is a scavenger hunt which you can print out. They also host yearly events many of which are great for families. Plus talks, tours and workshops.

Covid 19 – Please check the website or social media of an attraction before visiting. Many places may be open differently and some remain closed. Reviews do not mention all of these changes or possible price changes. Most places now require you to pre-book online in advance.
