Pencarrow House is a Grade II* listed country house near Bodmin in Cornwall. It has been the home of the Molesworth-St Aubyns for almost 500 years. The house has formal gardens, a large Victorian rock garden and an ice house all set in 50 acres of parkland and woodland. There is even an Iron Age hill fort.
They run guided tours of the house. You can expect to see hidden passageways, portraits with eyes that follow you and statues sporting top hats – it’s not your usual country home. They love to welcome children and kids visit for free.
Pencarrow provides both short and long circular walks, some with wheelchair access. Their flower season starts with snowdrops, a dazzling display of camellias and rhododendrons. Then there is a carpet of bluebells and the memorial garden is stunning in summer. There is an ancient Cornish cross in their grounds and also a grotto. Next to the cafe, you will find a small wooden adventure play area. They often hold special events.
Covid 19 – Please check the website or social media of an attraction before visiting. Many places may be open differently and some remain closed. Reviews do not mention all of these changes or possible price changes. Most places now require you to pre-book online in advance.
