Things to do at Raby Castle review
Raby Castle is a medieval castle near Staindrop in County Durham. It was built in the late 14th century and has around 200 acres of deer park plus plenty to keep the family entertained on a day out.
The parkland is home to herds of red and fallow deer. You can explore the park and spot lots of wildlife in and around the pounds. There is a 5-acre 18th century walled garden and plenty of opportunities to stretch your legs.
Kids will love the woodland adventure playground. There is a rustic obstacle course with a zip wire. Plus you can hire bikes and explore even more of the grounds and experience some spectacular views.
Indoors you can see the Coach house and stables with their collection of 18th century travelling chariots. When visiting the castle make sure you pick up a free activity sheet which leads children around the rooms of the castle. There are questions to answer and items to look out for. The castle also hosts annual family-friendly events. The approach to the castle is spectacular with its ornamental lake, deer, towers and turrets. There are impressive rooms to see within the house.
