Things to do at Heights of Abraham review
The Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath, Derbyshire are somewhere I have fond memories of visiting as a child. To me, it was so magical to step onboard their cable car and go high up the hill to what felt like another world. The Heights of Abraham isn’t just a cable car ride, there is so much more to it than that.
The heights first opened to visitors way back in the 1780s. The journey up in one of their cable cars will reward you with 360-degree views of the Derbyshire Dales. Once at the top there’s plenty of things to do that are included with your ticket.
You could visit their show caverns and take one of two guided tours deep underground. The caverns were formed over 350 million years ago and each has its own fascinating story to tell. Make sure you visit Tinker’s Shaft. What was once the main access point to the Great Masson Cavern is now a viewing platform with even more incredible views.
The Long View is an interactive exhibition detailing the 230-year-old history of the heights. The Masson Pavilion houses another exhibition, this one celebrates the Derbyshire landscape through aerial photography. Kids will love the fascinating Fossil factory exhibition. If you’re feeling energetic you could climb the spiral staircase of the Victoria Prospect tower for even more views.
There are two adventure play areas. One is a mini assault course that is perfect for younger children. The other is a woodland adventure with ropes, swings, slides and more. If you have any energy left there are also 30 acres of gardens to explore.
Covid 19 – Please check the website or social media of an attraction before visiting. Many places may be open differently and some remain closed. Reviews do not mention all of these changes or possible price changes. Most places now require you to pre-book online in advance.
