Things to do at Markeaton Park review

Markeaton Park on the outskirts of Derby is Derbyshire’s biggest park. I have so many fond memories of visiting this park as a child. There was lots to do even back then and there is even more now today, even the massive paddling pool is still there.

Because the park is so big there are a few different entrances and places to park. It is one of the most visited parks in the area and it is one of the most popular attractions in the East Midlands. The park itself can be traced back to medieval times. There are many buildings that mark the parks long history including ancient veteran trees, historic lost roads, old arable field patterns, the 18th-century park and buildings plus remains of a Second World War army camp.

You could spend hours just wandering around the park and exploring. There’s always plenty of geese and ducks so make sure you take plenty of bird-friendly food. There is plenty of family-friendly activities including mini golf (two 9 hole courses), the large Mundy Play centre, footgolf and pitch and putt. Plus there are sports facilities, Skyline high ropes, events, craft village and more. Some activities have a charge.

The play areas have a dedicated toddler area with swings, a slide and climbing equipment. For older children, there are large swings, slides and a spider net plus a pirate ship which is accessible for disabled children.

Covid 19 – Please check the website or social media of an attraction before visiting. Many places may be open differently and some remain closed. Reviews do not mention all of these changes or possible price changes. Most places now require you to pre-book online in advance.
