Things to do at Poole’s Cavern and Buxton Country Park review
Poole’s Cavern is a two-million-year-old natural limestone cave near Buxton in Derbyshire. The caverns are part of the Wye system and it is designated a site of special scientific interest.
Expert guides will take you on a tour of the vast limestone caverns. You will see how crystal stalactites have lined the chambers over millions of years. You will hear stories of stone age hunters, Roman soldiers, medieval outlaws and even a Queen. The tour is suitable for all ages with paved walkways and handrails throughout. There are a total of 28 steps, tours run every 20 minutes and last for almost an hour. There is also an outdoor playground close to the car park.
You can extend your day out by visiting the country park where you can walk through beautiful woodland trails. There are marked trails of varying lengths up to Solomon’s Temple with beautiful views across the Peak District. Why not try and find some fossils or have a go at orienteering. Maps are available from the visitor centre.
