Things to do at Colne Valley Railway review
Colne Valley Railway is a heritage railway based at Castle Hedingham station in Essex. The railway has a 1-mile long-running line with a fully reconstructed station, signal box and railway yard.
As well as being able to ride on a diesel or steam train they also have a miniature railway with two stations and six locomotives. The ride is 750 metres long and runs on most open days (subject to weather). There is an even smaller miniature railway close to platform 1. This is a scale railway where everything is miniature, even the castle, model boats and Nessie. This is fully functioning most weekends, again weather permitting.
They have a second miniature railway in the railway shed behind the signal box. This was donated to the railway. There is an interactive learning museum and a travelling post office where you can have a go at sorting letters. You can pick up a nature trail and enjoy a walk around their woodland (May to September, only if the ground is suitable). Plus of course, you can enjoy rides on their full-size diesel or steam trains.
Covid 19 – Please check the website or social media of an attraction before visiting. Many places may be open differently and some remain closed. Reviews do not mention all of these changes or possible price changes. Most places now require you to pre-book online in advance.
