Things to do at Mountfitchet Castle review

Mountfitchet Castle is so much more than just a castle, but let’s start there. The castle itself is a wooden castle, with plenty of plaques to tell you more about each individual thing inside and outside the castle. There are many animals at Mountfitchet Castle, including goats, ducks, and swans – all who you can feed. Once you’ve made it inside the castle, there are also a bunch of different interactive activities that you can enjoy – and a stamp collecting hunt for children to take part in.

From picture areas to climbing up large towers to trying on helmets, you can really do a lot inside the castle grounds. You can use the mill to pretend to mill flour or try out their test archery place, all on your own. Inside many of the buildings, there are figures that start talking, acting like you have gone back in time to when this castle was in its prime.

If the massive castle grounds aren’t enough for you, there is also a small dinosaur walk to the Toy Museum, which is on the same grounds, included in the ticket price. The Toy Museum has a lot of different toy collections – and is required for your stamp hunt. Inside the Toy Museum, for just £1 more per person, you can also go on a haunted walk through a creepy tunnel of terror, which isn’t too creepy as children can easily walk through it.

Mountfitchet Castle really has a lot going on, but even if you just go for the castle and its grounds, you are going to have a fun and historical day out for all ages.
