Things to do at The Brickworks Museum review

The Brickworks Museum is a volunteer-run museum based in Swanwick, Hampshire, England. It is thought to be the last Victorian steam-driven brickworks left in the UK. It might not strike you as somewhere to visit with the family but with a play area for the kids and other activities, it’s certainly somewhere a bit different.

The Brickworks were built back in the late 19th century and by the 1930s they were producing up to 20 million bricks a year. You can still see all the old machinery including the steam engines. They even hold special steam event days.

It’s a really hands-on museum with lots of interactive things for kids to do. You can see bricks being made and even have a try yourselves. On their event days, there is also a narrow-gauge railway that you can take a ride on. Plus there is a small outdoor play area.

The Southampton and District transport and heritage trust is also based at the site and you can see many former transport buses. They have approximately 20 vehicles.

Covid 19 – Please check the website or social media of an attraction before visiting. Many places may be open differently and some remain closed. Reviews do not mention all of these changes or possible price changes. Most places now require you to pre-book online in advance.
