Things to do at Dover Castle review
Dover Castle is a medieval castle in Dover, Kent. It was founded back in the 11th century and it has been significant in the defence of England throughout history. It is known to be the biggest castle in England although there is some debate about this.
Inside the great tower at Dover castle, you can immerse yourselves in a medieval palace like no other. The castle is also ‘brought to life’ on selected dates throughout the year. The castle even has an underground hospital that has been set out as authentically as possible, there’s even authentic sounds and smells. In the tunnels, you can also see, hear and feel the danger of the Dunkirk evacuation that was once masterminded within the tunnels. There are special effects, projections and real film footage.
At the castle, you can discover the oldest surviving lighthouse in the country the Roman Pharos. It was once used to aid navigation by Romans across the English Channel from France. There is also a small museum, battlements walk, medieval tunnels and more to explore.
