Things to do at Ramsgate Tunnels review

Ramsgate Tunnels were once an underground railway in Ramsgate, Kent. The section of line between Broadstairs and Ramsgate harbour included a tunnel to the seafront. It was reopened in 1936 to connect tourist attractions and shops but It has since been abandoned and is now a tourist attraction. The tunnel still exists but no trace remains of either of the two stations. There are further tunnels that were constructed during WWII.

The tour of the tunnels starts with a short film show in a 150-year-old Victorian railway tunnel. The tour then takes visitors to see the purpose-built air raid precaution tunnels where thousands took shelter during WWII underneath the town of Ramsgate.

The tour itself is dark and atmospheric. You are given a hard hat and a torch to carry. They do allow kids from the age of 7 and some 3-7-year-olds can be admitted but this is at the discretion of the guide. The tour is around 1.25 km long and lasts for around 1 – 1.5 hours.

Covid 19 – Please check the website or social media of an attraction before visiting. Many places may be open differently and some remain closed. Reviews do not mention all of these changes or possible price changes. Most places now require you to pre-book online in advance.
