Things to do at Burghley House review
Burghley House and the Garden of surprises are located near Stamford in Lincolnshire. Burghley House is a very grand Elizabethan 16th Century house and its gardens are amongst some of the best in the UK with play fountains, sculptures and more.
You can purchase a ticket just for the garden of surprises which, once you have arrived is located top left. The great thing about Burghley is that once you’ve purchased your ticket you can upgrade for free which means you can return as many times as you like (so long as it’s open and there isn’t a special event on) for no extra charge.
The Garden of surprises has the most wonderful area for kids to splash in with lots of play fountains, cascades and mini-jets (shoes must be worn). The gardens here are really beautiful and there’s some oversize games to be found, a small grotto cave and a mirror maze. The sculpture gardens are vast and there’s plenty of wonderful sculptures to be found. Don’t forget to ask if there’s a trail on as it’s a great way of making sure you find everything. Kids will have a great time helping you to find everything.
The house is closed on Friday’s. There are some truly magnificent rooms at Burghley including a very impressive Billiard room and some very lavish bedrooms. The old kitchen is fascinating and some of the frescos are worthy of a grand museum. Look out for the paintings/frescos in a bedroom based on heaven and then the contrasting stairway based on hell.
Covid 19 – Please check the website or social media of an attraction before visiting. Many places may be open differently and some remain closed. Reviews do not mention all of these changes or possible price changes. Most places now require you to pre-book online in advance.
