Things to do at Askham Bryan Wildlife & Conservation Park review
Askham Bryan Wildlife Conservation Park is located on the outskirts of York in North Yorkshire It is connected to the on-site college. It’s a really lovely place and not as small as I imagined. Although we did walk around twice you could easily spend a few hours there. Walking around in the morning and then the afternoon was like visiting two different places as some of the animals we didn’t see in the morning were out in the afternoon and vica versa.
You start your visit indoors in a long corridor with tanks of different fish, reptiles and even an armadillo. All of the tanks have signs on them helping you to spot whatever is in there. This is such a great idea and most of the information was certainly needed.
Outdoors they have a good variety of animals some of which you don’t normally get to see. They had tortoise in with the meerkats which was the cutest thing as I swear the tortoise thought it was one of them. The racoons are a particular favourite of ours and it’s rare to see them so close.
There is a nice pond area with the biggest rhubarb leaves I’ve ever seen! They also run some animal experiences and even younger children can take part in extra special activities to meet their animals (from 5+). There are some really cute and friendly squirrels, they’re not your regular forest kind of squirrels. There is also a play area with a variety of equipment for younger and older kids.
Covid 19: Due to current restrictions not everything will be open, or it may be open differently to normal, at the attraction that you are visiting. Please consult their social media accounts, give them a call or visit their website if you can’t find the information you are looking for.
