Things to do at How Stean Gorge review

How Stean Gorge is a spectacular limestone ravine that has been carved out by thousands of years of water flowing through it. Today it is home to an outdoor pursuits centre and is great for families to try something a bit more adventurous. Outdoor activities include via ferrata, gorge walking, caving, rock climbing, canyoning and abseiling. They even have camping pitches if you want to stay for longer.

They’ve adapted the gorge and its surroundings to offer activities that can be led by qualified instructors and enjoyed by all. The gorge limestone is so special that it is graded as a SSSI – a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The walk through to the caves takes you past lots of attractions that are some of the most beautiful and unique parts of the Yorkshire Dales.

With a ticket from the shop, you can wander along the trail adjacent to the beck. The upper pathway is suitable for the timid adventurer, the lower are more challenging as they are uneven and occasionally slippery. These trails have been made to suit people of all sizes and abilities. This makes it the perfect family day out in Yorkshire and a great way to see a beautiful gorge completely created by nature. A map and hard hat are also included so you can visit the cave. There is also a play area next to the visitor centre.

Master the art of the open canoe as you will learn the skills required to pilot your craft, watch wildlife and enjoy the scenery. No previous experience is necessary and they provide all safety equipment and can teach canoeing for beginners – making this an ideal activity for people of any age or skill level. For more information on their more extreme activities please visit their website.

Covid 19: Due to current restrictions not everything will be open, or it may be open differently to normal, at the attraction that you are visiting. Please consult their social media accounts, give them a call or visit their website if you can’t find the information you are looking for.
