Things to do at Jorvik Viking Centre review
Jorvik Viking Centre is located in the heart of the city of York in North Yorkshire. It has been a tourist attraction for many years, I even remember visiting on a school trip many moons ago. It experienced a devastating flood in 2015 and recently in 2017 after a multi-million-pound investment the centre reopened its doors.
We have been a few times since and if you live locally you can certainly get your moneys worth as once you’ve purchased your tickets you can return for a further 12 months for free. The centre recreates life in the time of the Vikings, 1,000 years ago. with incredible realism.
When you enter the centre you walk onto a glass floor where the remains of Viking York can be seen below your feet. You then board your ‘vehicle’ for an updated ride experience with realistic sounds, smells and moving figures. You journey through life in Viking York and you can see exactly how life would have been. There is an audio commentary behind your head with a special version for kids. You will see recreated houses, workshops, shops, backyards and more.
Once the ride has finished you can view many precious 1,000 year old artefacts in their newly designed galleries. There may even be some friendly Viking hosts to play you some music or help you hammer out a coin to take home with you.
Covid 19: Due to current restrictions not everything will be open, or it may be open differently to normal, at the attraction that you are visiting. Please consult their social media accounts, give them a call or visit their website if you can’t find the information you are looking for.
