Things to do at White Scar Cave review

White Scar Cave near Carnforth in North Yorkshire is the longest show cave in England. The cave was first explored in 1923 and tours of the cave today are around 80 minutes long covering around 1 mile of the length of the cave.

There is a selection of features in the show cave including a mighty waterfall. As you enter the cave you are aware of a faint sound that gets louder as you walk further in. It’s particularly spectacular after wet weather with about fifty-five tonnes of water cascading down each minute.

The Witch’s Fingers are a particular favourite with young children which look as you can probably imagine them to. The Judge’s Head are where Stalagmites grow upwards and many have developed in interesting and strange ways. In places, the cave flowstone has grown so thick that the cave trail is narrowed. It is quite a squeeze at one point but no one has got stuck yet.

Make sure you aren’t dripped on by the Devil’s Tongue and look out for the dangling carrots. The Battlefield cavern is a result of major works that were undertaken to extend visitor access. At the far end of this cavern is a white shape known as The Face, see if you can spot it. Santa even comes to the cave at Christmas time and greets children in his Grotto by the cave entrance.
