Things to do at Yorkshire Museum review
Yorkshire Museum is located in the beautiful Museum gardens in the heart of York city centre. The gardens themselves cover an area of 10 acres and include the ruined St Mary’s Abbey. The gardens are a registered botanical garden and well worth a look around.
Yorkshire Museum itself is an excellent family-friendly museum. There’s plenty of interactive exhibits. In the Jurassic World exhibition, you can ‘dig’ for fossils. Our favourite exhibit is where they bring sea dragon fossils to life by Augmented reality. You point a tablet at the fossils and the tablet brings the fossils to life. It’s so interesting and very clever. There is a life-size Plesiosaur and an excellent coral seas exhibition.
The Roman York exhibition allows children to take their shoes off and walk on a real Roman mosaic. There’s many treasures from ancient Rome to marvel at.
Other exhibitions include a display of treasures from York’s medieval past and an 11,000-year-old headdress. It’s a museum that will spark children’s imaginations and bring history to life. Make sure you spend plenty of time in each room because there’s often something new to discover.
Covid 19: Due to current restrictions not everything will be open, or it may be open differently to normal, at the attraction that you are visiting. Please consult their social media accounts, give them a call or visit their website if you can’t find the information you are looking for.
