Things to do Hawkstone Park Follies review
Hawsktone Park Follies in Weston-Under-Redcastle near Shrewsbury is one of the first and most original tourist attractions in the UK. After almost a Century of neglect, this magical Georgian attraction was lovingly restored and reopened in 1993.
It is 100 acres of extraordinary follies, around every corner is a fantasy landscape full of bridges, towers, cliffs, crags, caves, walkways and deep woods waiting to be explored. It takes at least 3 hours to see and experience it all with many steps, ascents and descents but it is more than worth the effort.
There is a relatively new enchanted trail with clues to find along the way. There’s also den building, giant telephones and trolls hiding behind rocks. Children can collect leaves and ingredients for a magical spell that culminates in finding the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.
You can climb to the top of the monument with 150 steps and amazing views from the top. There’s an enchanting hermitage, the Swiss bridge with is a thin rustic wooden bridge perched over a deep chasm. Plus a dark and mysterious tunnel which leads into Grotto hill with is thought to have originated from a 5th-Century copper mine. There’s a series of caves and passages that lead to a Grotto labyrinth that is a sight to behold. Decent footwear is essential.
