Things to do Amerton Railway review
Amerton Railway is a heritage railway track in Amerton, near Stafford, that is run and staffed entirely by a team of enthusiastic volunteers. The traditional single gauge railway is home to a selection of vintage steam and diesel engines, along with a range of salvaged railway buildings and furniture from around Staffordshire.
Passengers are towed in carriages on a short ride of almost 1 mile around the local countryside. The trains depart approximately every half an hour throughout the day and the ride lasts for around 15 minutes in duration. Tickets for the train are priced at £2 per person, with under 3s riding for free. At the half-way point of the ride, the train stops at a station with the option to leave the train, before returning back to the starting station on a later, alternative train. Next to this mid-way stop is a pleasant outdoor picnic area, perfect for relaxing in and extending the duration of the experience.
While on the train, children are given a printed treasure hunt sheet, with a selection of animals and railway features to try and spot while taking the ride. In addition to this, the railway also runs seasonal events, such as the popular Santa experience at Christmas time.
If wanting to extend the trip to a full day out, there is also the option of visiting the adjacent Amerton Farm, with its own range of fun activities for children to do, including both indoor and outdoor play areas (farm entrance paid for separately).
Covid 19: Due to current restrictions not everything will be open, or it may be open differently to normal, at the attraction that you are visiting. Please consult their social media accounts, give them a call or visit their website if you can’t find the information you are looking for.
