Things to do Shugborough Estate review

Shugborough Estate is a National Trust property. It is home to a stately mansion and has 900 acres of land to explore.

With a natural play area to investigate, kids will be happy with the vast array of equipment to climb and hop all over. There is a zip wire for the thrill-seekers, climbable crates and concrete canons, and plenty of picnic benches for playtime snacks.

Shugborough Hall offers a learning experience for everybody. Head into the servants quarters to see what they got paid, how they lived and what they used day to day. Lord Lichfields’ apartments are open to view, by timed ticket only. Here you can glimpse into the world of a Lord and his photography career. He captured many star studded clients, from royals to screen idols.

There are many follies and monuments dotted around the estate, with inspiration drawn from other countries and cultures. From Chinese bridges and Greek pillars, follow the ‘monuments stroll’ walk to take in most of the ornate features. Through the gardens, pathways are clear and manageable for pushchairs and wheelchairs.

Park Hall Farm is an added attraction for children. Walk through the farm and learn about how it was managed. See how meat was stored and how cheese was made before heading to the exhibition space. Observe the animals still living there today, including Longhorn cows and Tamworth pigs!

Toilet facilities are also located here before you make your way onto the estate. On-site, there is a shop selling produce from Park Hall farm and other National Trust trinkets. Also, as with most National Trust properties, there is the ubiquitous second-hand bookshop.

Covid 19 – Please check the website or social media of an attraction before visiting. Many places may be open differently and some remain closed. Reviews do not mention all of these changes or possible price changes. Most places now require you to pre-book online in advance.
