Anglers Country Park – Room on the Broom Trail
near Wakefield, West Yorkshire
Average time spent – 2-3 hours.
Things to do at Anglers Country Park review
Anglers country park can be found an approximate 15 minutes drive south of Wakefield. It has a very small car park for the popularity of the place so if you want to visit I recommend getting their early if you are arriving by car.
The park has a visitor centre with a cafe and it has a huge lake that you can walk all the way around. They have a Room on the Broom trail going around the lake and you can pick up a trail pack for £2 from the activity centre (you can do the trail without purchasing a pack). This has activities for kids plus a map of the trail so you can tick things off as you find them. The sculptures are made of wood and it’s a great way of getting the kids outdoors and keeping them entertained at the same time. The trail is 2 miles long.
There is also an adventure playground located next to the visitor centre. There’s plenty for young and old kids to play on. Around the lake, you can also find bird hides and the Waterton trail passes through the park should you want to do any more walking. The lake trail can be walked, jogged or cycled. Dogs are also welcome. There is quite a lot of birds on the lake so make sure you pick up some food for them from reception.
You can download their free Love Exploring app to discover dinosaurs and find fairies at Anglers Country Park. You could certainly spend two or more hours at the park if you do all of the above. There is also a woodland walk.
When we went it was incredibly muddy even though it hadn’t rained for a long time. I highly recommend wearing wellies and taking a change of clothes for your kids.
Covid 19: Due to current restrictions not everything will be open, or it may be open differently to normal, at the attraction that you are visiting. Please consult their social media accounts, give them a call or visit their website if you can’t find the information you are looking for.
