Things to do at Greenhead Park review
Greenhead Park is a beautiful urban park located west of Huddersfield town centre in West Yorkshire. It was originally opened in 1884 and it still retains a lot of it’s Victorian charm. The park is surrounded on all sides by roads, most of which you can park on for free. Once in the park you wouldn’t know that you were near the hustle and bustle of town living.
There is a great variety of things to do at the park including two large play areas and various exercise gym equipment dotted around the park. There is also a skate park and tennis courts plus a multi sports court.
At the centre of the park, there is a large memorial to those that served and lost their lives in the first word war. It now acts as a memorial to both walls and it is very impressive. The grounds of the park are well maintained and are well worth a walk around especially the Italian gardens and the rock gardens with a tunnel. Don’t forget your duck food for the birds that live on the ornamental lake.
The park also has a miniature steam railway that runs at weekends from March until the end of summer with trains at Halloween and Christmas. In the warmer months there is a large paddling pool, children’s rides and horse and carriage rides. Covid 19 closed these attractions in 2020 but hopefully, they will be open in 2021.
Covid 19 – Please check the website or social media of an attraction before visiting. Many places may be open differently and some remain closed. Reviews do not mention all of these changes or possible price changes. Most places now require you to pre-book online in advance.
