Things to do at National Science and Media Museum review
The National Science and Media Museum is located in the heart of Bradford, West Yorkshire. It’s a really great museum for families and it does a fantastic job of making learning fun. The museum has permanent and temporary exhibitions so it’s somewhere you can visit often without it being too similar each time.
The permanent exhibitions include a kodak gallery that takes you through the history of photography. You can step into a 19th Century portrait studio and see hundreds of photography related objects. There is even the opportunity to watch the world’s first moving colour film.
Their newest permanent exhibition is Wonderlab. In here you can work your way through 20 different interactive exhibits, some of which I’ve never seen anything like them before. You can hear your voice echo through a tube, see your body heat in a series of colours and get lost in their mirror maze. For most of the exhibits, you are immersed in them and even become the experiment while learning all about light and sound.
In the games room, you can play all manner of vintage games. There’s the very first PlayStation set up for you to play, Nintendo and even Sega. Plus full-size vintage arcade games such as Pacman, Space Invaders and Streetfighter. Admission to the games lounge is £2 and all arcade games and consoles are now free to play. Don’t forget to book when you book your free museum tickets.
The museum is also home to the biggest and most immersive IMAX cinema in West Yorkshire. Tickets for this cost around £8-9 for an adult and £6 for a child. If needed 3D glasses are included.
Covid 19 – Please check the website or social media of an attraction before visiting. Many places may be open differently and some remain closed. Reviews do not mention all of these changes or possible price changes. Most places now require you to pre-book online in advance.
